Time Stands Still in Guatemala

Daylight savings is a controversial topic in Guatemala. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Last year it came about out of the blue, with most locals not even realizing it was upon them. This year President Alvaro Colom has decided not to continue with the spotty policy, citing safety reasons. Despite saving approximately 60 megawatts of energy per day, the later sunrise would force many people to begin their walk to work in the dark, further exposing them to the threat of violence.

HEY...i just recently came back from Guatemala, i was there for the day of the dead celebrations. I actually went to see the large kites, which was impressive!!I do have a tip for future Guatemalan travelers...the transportation is not ideal. However, after our first day, a European couple suggested we use Shutte Guatemala, www.shuttleguatemala.com, for our travel, and to our suprise, it was GREAT! I was there for 2 weeks, and it worked perfectly. I strongly suggest it to anyone traveling in guatemala! ADIOS!
