Reasons Why I Love my Hosting Company

I’m thankful that our blog is hosted by Typepad and not Startlogic, our primary hosting company, or else I wouldn’t be able to get you this wonderful post. Why is that you ask? Well, they have once again put a 100% effort into proving their incompetency and somehow managed to completely ‘lose’ the otr website. This is not the first time it has happened, which is why I am such a satisfied customer. This time, they were making a global migration to what was supposed to be a new and improved platform. This happened about a month ago and we immediately lost account access among other things. Since Customer Service is not their forte, it takes approximately 2 hours to get an operator who generally doesn’t know what is going on and rarely has direct access to the system. So, after waiting on hold for 2 hours, you get to wait on hold some more while they contact the mysterious ‘technical support’ to understand what you are talking about. Unfortunately, broken telephone didn’t become more effective in the Internet age, and the problem just kept rolling over from one support person to another. In the midst of all this, a guy named Jim with an email address I have never seen before, somehow became the primary administrator of our account. This meant that every time we logged a ticket with support (which is your only option when you don’t have all day to wait on hold), the response would go to good old Jim and the case would get closed. 1 month later and several cumulative hours waiting on hold, I finally got a live voice who identified a problem and told me he was re-setting our system. Two hours later it disappeared into cyberspace.

So, I apologize for the fact that our website will be down for 24-72 hours (read: up to a week in Startlogic time). I’d like to use the defense that we are travelers and advice givers, not technology people, but I’m sure that doesn’t help you in your travel planning.
