Challenges for Peru - What More Could There Be?
General strikes, earthquakes, fireballs... what's next? Peru has suffered more than it's fair share of setbacks this year. Yes, that's right... the lastest disaster seems to be the in the form of an unidentified fireball -- which the AP has confirmed to be a meteorite -- that landed in the Southern Peru, near the Bolivian border, causing 200 people to fall ill as a result of noxious fumes. The leader of the Carancas community said some inhabitants were really sick, with serious headaches, feeling dizzy, also presenting nausea, diarrea and vomit.
The meteorite left a crater which is 65 feet wide and 15 feet deep, which boiled for 10 minutes emitting the toxic fumes. However, doctors who visited said they have found no trace of radioactive contamination amongst the local inhabitants.
