Archaeological Discoveries in Peru
Only a few days after
the potential discovery of Paullo Inca’s burial place in San Cristobal Church, another
important discovery has been made by INC (National Institute of Culture)
archaeologists. Paullo Inca, Atahualpa’s brother, is known for his
collaboration with the Spanish conquerors for which he received many ‘favours’
from the Spanish Crown.
An underground tomb
with a 3-meter long corridor holding skeletal remains, presumably from Colonial
times, was found by these archaeologists while they were doing restoration work
inside the Santa Ana temple in the city of Cusco.
The director of the
INC said that the crypt is located on the central part of the temple, 25cm
underground, and that it was probably built together with the temple in 1560.
These discoveries have
been made amid an agreement between Yale University
Peru
to go through further studies and be displayed for the Peruvian people.
