Hidden Peru on the Rise
Last weekend's article in the New York Times about Choquequirao couldn't have come at a better time -
just as we are putting the final touches on our coverage of Peru. The increasing popularity of Peru on the international travel map has
had devastating effects on the Inca Trail. An overflow of careless
tourists has led to pollution and crowds resulting in a government
imposition of permits to hike the trail. It is not surprising that the
new hidden gems are the less-developed trails in the Sacred Valley. Choquequirao is one of many fantastic passages that will give you outstanding vistas and an insight into the Andean culture.
We have been very careful while choosing our recommendations for Peru, to keep in mind the rapidly evolving nature of Peru's travel industry. Peru's landscape changes daily as tourism becomes a thriving industry throughout the country. Hotels, restaurants and tour providers come and go regularly, so be sure to check out our recommendations for the latest and greatest.
