Guatemala's Earthquake
The earth shook throughout Guatemala and parts of El Salvador on Wednesday as an earthquake struck, reportedly 70 miles off the Pacific coast of Guatemala. There is some confusion as CNN reported that the earthquake registered a magnitude of 6.8, however locals tell us that it was actually 5.4, lasting about 40 seconds.
Yvonne Fass, our editor in Antigua, reports that very little damage and no deaths resulting from the earthquake. The Pacific coast of Central America is susceptible to earthquakes. Almost 23,000 people died in a 1976 earthquake in Guatemala.
