Buenos Aires: A Rejuvenated Destination
Argentina is one of my favorite countries to visit, offering diverse terrain, tons of culture, great restaurants, vibrant entertainment and top-notch hotels. It has nearly come full circle from the late 19th century when it was one of the wealthiest countries in the Americas thanks to early industrialization and its abundance of exportable goods. Unemployment, inflation and a large amount of national debt soon brought the country to its knees and began an economic roller coaster that culminated most recently in the economic crisis of 2002 in which Argentina’s fixed exchange rate was abandoned. (There's obviously a lot more to the story, if you're interested check out Wikipedia)
Today Argentina is on the road to recovery, and although locals still flinch from the wealth that was lost, they are welcoming travelers to their country with open arms. This month’s Conde Naste Traveler has a great article about the rejuvenation of Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital city. The arts & culture scene has never been more vibrant while local designers are becoming household names in the international style circuit. Boutique hotels are abundant and gourmet restaurants are flourishing – all at an extremely affordable price!
In Conde Naste fashion, the recommendations in the article are on the high end, including the ever-famous Alvear Palace Hotel. On The Road Travelers can check out our accommodation recommendations, suggestions for where to go out (where the locals go) and favorite shopping destinations!
