Tips for Buying Travel Insurance
I thought I'd pass on this article I read recently advising travelers planning to take a ski break this winter to ensure they have adequate travel insurance. Adventure travelers often don't realize that their insurance doesn't cover certain activities, or that they are precluded from coverage because of pre-existing conditions. The article advises travelers to read the fine print to make sure you understand what you're paying for.
World Nomads offers online travel insurance specifically for independent travelers. Policies cover piste, off-piste and cross-country skiing. Check out the 'what we cover' section of the site for real-life examples of their coverage flexibility (oddly enough each incident took place on Whistler / Blackcomb). Policies can also cover bungee jumping, canyoning and kite surfing. Sorry to say that they do not cover skydiving or base jumping, but if you find a company that does, let us know! Their policies also cover overseas medical expenses and evacuations in the event of emergencies. For technologically-inclined travelers they offer luggage coverage that can include laptops, digital cameras and ipods. Lastly, they provide online claims and extensions for your convenience while you are on the road.
An interesting follow up WRT travel insurance:
