The Godfather Comes to Buenos Aires
It seems Sandra Bullock isn’t the only star slated to bring Hollywood to Buenos Aires. Renowned director Francis Ford Coppola is planning to film his next movie, Tetro, in the Argentine capital. Coppola and his director-daughter Sofia have reportedly purchased a hotel in the trendy Palermo Soho neighborhood so that they can soak up the culture in preparation for filming. The film, the first he has directed since 1974 that will be from his own original script, is about a multi-generational family of Italian artists who immigrate to Buenos Aires. No word on whether this film is semi-autobiographical (Coppola’s father was a composer, sister an actress and daughter a producer). Buenos Aires’ vibrant culture is greatly influenced by the number of Italian immigrants who have long called the city home. We’ll wait and see what further details Tetro reveals about the ‘Paris of the South’.
